Analytical Research Division of the Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research Accredited

It was announced at the BETV-SAM Project Completion Workshop that the Analytical Research Division (ARD) of Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR) has successfully become accredited to ANS/ISO/IEC Standard 17025 general requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories. Standard 17025 is used world-wide for the management and assessment of many laboratories. ARD is the first Bangladesh government laboratory to achieve accreditation for a set of analytical parameters relevant to OCETA's BETV-SAM program.

With the help of OCETA, ARD began the process of setting up their laboratory quality management system in 2006. Standard 17025 contains over 200 clauses describing management requirements and technical requirements that the laboratory must document and use. ARD has set up an excellent quality management system that allows them to control their laboratory operations and demonstrate that they provide acceptable laboratory data to their customers.

The final audit by Assessors from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) of India took place in August 2009. The NABL Assessors commented that they had never seen a first time applicant laboratory that was this well prepared for their initial assessment, and which only had a small number of non-conformances. Congratulations to the Analytical Research Division, Dhaka, Bangladesh!
