OCETA Takes Home Two Awards at Canadian Brownfields Conference
October 26, 2009 marked the 9th annual Canadian Urban Institute's (CUI) Brownie Awards Ceremony and Dinner at the Canadian Brownfields Conference in Vancouver, BC. The CUI Brownie Awards are awarded to projects and programs that reflect leadership and innovation in brownfield redevelopment.
The 2009 "Brownfielder of the Year" award for individual achievement went to OCETA's Tammy Lomas-Jylhä, VP of Sustainable Remediation and Brownfield Services, and who until recently, also acted as the Executive Director of the Canadian Brownfields Network. "This award acknowledges a remarkable devotion to the notion of brownfield redevelopment that goes above and beyond professional commitment," the selection committee noted. "Ms. Lomas-Jylhä's tireless efforts across Canada over the past decade have made a genuine difference." Congratulations Tammy!
In addition, OCETA also received an award for excellence in Communications, Marketing and Public Engagement for the Redevelopment Framework for Former Service Stations in Ontario™. OCETA developed this product in partnership with the Canadian Petroleum Products Institute and the Province of Ontario. The Framework is a free, online decision-support tool that clarifies and streamlines the process for redeveloping a former service station in Ontario. The Framework guides municipalities, property owners and developers to accelerate the redevelopment of former service stations.
