Uxbridge Sustainability Forum Showcases Local Initiatives for Reducing Environmental Footprint

The fourth Stakeholders Sustainability Forum of the Durham Sustainability Stewardship Program was held on November 7, 2009 at Wyndance Golf Club in Uxbridge, Ontario, and was a great success. Uxbridge Mayor Bob Shepherd provided welcoming remarks, and was followed by an impressive group of speakers who showcased local environmental initiatives and success stories. The purpose of the forum was to create awareness on sustainable production and consumption, and provide opportunities for stakeholders to build partnerships and share best practices for reducing the environmental footprint in Durham Region.

A total of 53 stakeholders representing industry, government, education and public/not-for-profit groups from across Durham Region and the Greater Toronto Area participated.

A key factor to the success of the forum was the in-kind support OCETA received from the Township of Uxbridge and Durham Sustain Ability and the donation of time and effort by the speakers. OCETA extends its appreciation to all involved in making this event so successful; without these contributions the forums would not be possible.
