Remediation and Brownfield Workshops: Building Capacity, Engaging Stakeholders, Sharing Solutions
Sudbury Workshop
In September 2009, OCETA delivered the second of two match-making events for the Redevelopment Framework for Former Service Stations in Ontario™. The event was held in Sudbury, Ontario and focused on creating economic opportunities through the application of the Framework. Approximately 50 brownfield stakeholders, interested in identifying strategies and solutions for the redevelopment of petroleum brownfield sites, attended the workshop. These included municipalities, developers, consultants, property owners, analytical laboratories, lawyers and financial institutions. The workshop was delivered in collaboration with the Province of Ontario, Canadian Petroleum Products Institute and the City of Greater Sudbury.
Cornwall Brownfields Knowledge Workshop
OCETA developed and delivered a Brownfields Knowledge Workshop for the City of Cornwall in October 2009, which provided participants with practical insight into brownfield redevelopment in Ontario, updates on local initiatives, sustainable redevelopment approaches, and mechanisms for successful implementation. Approximately 100 brownfield stakeholders attended, including municipalities (economic development staff, planners, and councilors), developers, the local community, consultants, analytical laboratories, financial institutions, and other stakeholders interested in brownfield redevelopment.
Innovative Remediation Solutions Workshop - Pacific
OCETA, in collaboration with Public Works and Government Services Canada in the Pacific and Yukon Region, developed and delivered an Innovative Remediation Solutions Workshop, which was held on October 28, 2009 in conjunction with the Canadian Brownfields Conference. OCETA worked with the Federal Contaminated Sites Action Plan (FCSAP) Interdepartmental Working Group (Pacific and Yukon Region) to develop a program that provided opportunities for federal custodians to interact with technology vendors and others to identify site characterization and remediation solutions. The session also included interactive discussions on sustainable practices and green remediation. Over 80 brownfield stakeholders participated.
