2009 OCETA SDTC Cleantech Growth and Go-to-Market Report

An important future source of economic growth and job creation in Ontario is the Clean Technology industry. The sector includes businesses that make products or provide services that improve performance, productivity or efficiency, while significantly reducing costs, resources, energy consumption, waste, and pollutants. The opportunities for Ontario's Cleantech companies are promising, however, world-class technology does not guarantee commercial success, and Ontario's Cleantech companies face unique challenges to become global leaders. To grow and be profitable, Ontario Cleantech companies will need access to sufficient capital and management talent, customer demand for their solutions, and the capability to be world-class marketers and sellers of their products and services to domestic and international buyers.

OCETA is collaborating with The Russell-Mitchell Group to conduct an annual study and report to help Cleantech companies in Ontario improve their go-to-market strategies and competitiveness. Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) is the Title Sponsor for the 2009 report. Other current sponsors and support organizations include Royal Bank of Canada, Ogilvy Renault LLP, Blake, Cassels, & Graydon LLP, Export Development Canada, the Ontario Government, MaRS Discovery District, the Ontario BioAuto Council, XPV Capital, Investeco Capital and the National Angel Organization. The media sponsor is Actual Media Inc.

Major products in the final report will include: go-to-market insights based on interviews with CEOs of Ontario Cleantech companies; business and investment profiles of 100 Ontario Cleantech companies; business profiles of the Cleantech report sponsors; and a study of Ontario domestic demand for cleantech solutions. Policy considerations on the study findings will be provided to the Province of Ontario to stimulate the profitable development of the Cleantech industry in the context of Ontario's Next Generation Jobs Fund and Greening Ontario strategy.

The final report will be distributed in January 2009, and will include a major invitation only launch event at the MaRS Discovery District Collaboration Centre in Toronto. A briefing series will be held after the launch event to present the major report findings in select geographic regions across the Province.
